Feast thine bloodshot, jaundiced eyeballs on my fantastic Linux
Lair.

Every REAL MAN needs his lair and here is mine.

Note: These images were captured with a 60 mm Nikon macro
lens and there is some depth of field problems. But otherwise
behold the splendor and eat your hearts out.

Description:

Linux_Lair_0001

My main Xeon machine powered up. Note the cooling fan on the left
blowing large volumes of air across the entire set up. On the right
are the 2 spinning rust HDDs. No junk SSDs on my machine.

Underneath one can detect my Microslop Winblows machine. It is located
on the bottom tier because that's where it fucking belongs.

On the extreme left and out of focus is my new Xeon machine, still
unfinished.

powered up -- for damned good reason.

Here is a bit of a close up of my main Xeon machine. The Nvidia
TU116 vid card is seen as well as the SoundBlaster RX sound card.
I have to lace down the sound card because there is no box.

Here is the 2K monitor and keyboard for my main Xeon. Also seen are
my fantastic Bose speakers.

Out of sight on the right is another monitor and keyboard. I can operate
two machines at once if I need to.

Here is my DIY microphone and power supply. The depth of field is
rather poor but the mic is the metal can at the right end of the
breadboard.

This DIY mic beats the fuck out of any commercial equivalent but,
unfortunately, the room acoustics are somewhat poor.


What you have witnessed if essentially a GNU/Linux workstation
powerhouse, running Gentoo, that can whip the ass of any other
distro.

Indeed, your posts seem very minimal, as if you just expected to
dump the jpegs into a news post program, and expected it to work.
Not even a Mime header, of which "1.0" is even required in the latest
RFC for a news article (though, there is still a lot of netnews software
that doesn't honor that...)

TL;DR: yenc or uuencode would be very much appreciated.

Those are not wooden perfboards, you supreme idiot. I just glued the
perfboard onto some wooden blocks that I had lying around. Their purpose
is to elevate the perfboard, and all of the soldered connections that
are located underneath. What you witness is a variable voltage, linear
power supply that can be adapted to any purpose (within its limits).

Again, please provide the name of the company that pays you so that
we may avoid that incompetent monstrosity.

heavier laboratory power line; I can't recall offhand if it was 240V or
208V, as we had both of those available and we didn't need to use any of

Yup. Its why takes the OSHA safety training and fosters good lab
habits, because a short would tend to ruin one's day. Water is a big
one to watch out for, because it doesn't take much dampness on one's
hands to make skin a "good enough" conductor.

n any event, this was just proof-of-principle baby prototype which ran
directly off of grid; the next iteration has 16x greater output & is
off-grid capable, due to provisioning of an 80kW-hr Li battery pack:

But the fuse is intended not to save me but to save the

The fuse is not visible in the superb photos however.
It'll be there for a thousand years and will never be
required.

But if this alleged fuze is for the microphone, then where is it?

FYI, claiming it is "hidden" doesn't fly because that means that you
chose to make it unservicable, despite already having two panels which
would have been easy & conveniently mounted: you're showing that if a
fuze does exist, you have a piss-poor circuit design implementation.

FWIW, I think I had one of the dot matrix printers you designed for
decades ago ... you know, the one with the refitted board on the print
head to add the wheatstone bridge that had been forgotten? /s

And of course your other problem is that your so-called 'microphone' is
just one piece of cruddy shit you have laying around without adequate
electrical protection: where's the safety/fuzes for each of the PCs?

Better go lick your fingers and start checking if they're grounded.

Each motherboard power supply has its own internal fuse.

The metal box of each motherboard power supply is also grounded
so there is never a danger of shock.

Also, every connector has the metal contacts buried in plastic.
There is no way for a human to contact them even if he desired.

I used to actually ground myself via a wrist strap to drain away
any static charge before working on the MB, but I don't do that
anymore. I can just touch the power supply case which is grounded.

Your concerns border on insanity. You should consult a qualified
neurologist.

Oops. I erred. There is no fuse on this unit.

Those are 1.5 amp voltage regulators, which means they can output
a max current of 1.5 amps. Note the tall heat sinks.

Although this unit will see not that much current output. Here it
powers a single op amp with only milliamps of current required.

Anyone who would believe that such a circuit posed a danger should
undergo a comprehensive neurological examination.

and replacement of fuses.

Circuit layouts do not have to be aeshetically pleasing. They just have

He also erred, confusing the Amperage from a 120V
circuit for that for a 5V circuit -- then referred to
it as "EE", when it was basic electronics.

I was lucky enough to grow up with a Dad who was extremely
savvy to electronics, who learned the ropes from _his_ dad (as
well as being a Fire Control Technician in the Navy, and having
a career with electronics in DCPA/FEMA, and, and...).

Sidenote: Do they still teach electronics with discrete components
in High School? I hope so...I learned it growing up, but having
a structured course with theory helped with my "STEM" career (which
wasn't called that back then...).

(BTW, I was converting horsepower to kilowatts and back again when
I would read Chilton manuals for foreign automobiles in 6th grade.)

My high school didn't have an electronics course. Had they, given the lag

I've got one and only one QSL card. I'd thrown a transmitter together from
scrap I found in the desert including salvaged wire from an old wiper
motor and 12 gauge shotgun shells for coil forms, glass and aluminum foil
caps. I think the closest I came to real components was a FET from
RatShack. I was in Why, AZ and managed to hook up with a ham in Vegas. He
said I was coming in 5 by 5 but was drifting. I thought to myself 'if only
you could see the pile of junk I'm using for a transmitter.'

Today I'm an amateur extra.
I'm an advanced. They don't make them like that anymore but I'm holding on
to it. Back in the day I could barely manage the code for advanced and
extra wasn't going to happen. Besides the exam was more administrative
details than tech.

I don't remember the brand but I had a hand-me-down radio from the era
when radios were large, decorative pieces of furniture. It had band
switches and a complex semi-circular dial plus the magic eye.

I was lucky enough to grow up with a Dad who was extremely
savvy to electronics, who learned the ropes from _his_ dad (as
well as being a Fire Control Technician in the Navy, and having
a career with electronics in DCPA/FEMA, and, and...).
Never really thought about that much, even though I learned later that
Dad was a 'radioman' (Infantry Communications Sgt). But putting that
together now, it makes sense that I'd sometimes tag along with him to
the local hardware store with some TV vacuum tubes to test to find which
one(s) need to be replaced to get the TV running again. I can also
recall chastising him when he was helping with some wiring on my first
house, where he hadn't thrown the breaker before starting work - his
comment was "110 only tickles, but 220 throws you across the room". I
learned after my first 'tickle' to cut off the power (if one can) on
household stuff, plus after working in the HP lab that there's a lot of
hazards in the field...one of my earlier projects was to clear space in
the lab for my work, which involved safely disposing of several tons of
capacitors left over from another project ... think it ended up being
around 14 pallets worth ... and thank God I found someone who actually
wanted them, so it was a transfer instead of disposal ... I suspect a
lot of them were probably filled with PCP based oils.

No idea, but IMO probably unlikely. A neighbor teaches in the local

school 20-30 years ago.

helped him understand that the 360 amps are the sum of individual
currents in thousands and thousands of distinct individual wires in the
board and the chips. The current in each of these wires is on average
the 360 amps divided by the number of those wires.

It can only amount to making the physical stuff a bit warm.

When I say even high school was too much for these Bozos, they don't get
it. They walk around and announce their being "American" for me. Not
even for my dick any of them is American.

Last time I went to "Best Buy" was when answering machines using micro
cassette tapes came out. I don't know what fools keep places like that

blowing large volumes of air across the entire set up. On the right
are the 2 spinning rust HDDs. No junk SSDs on my machine.
Underneath one can detect my Microslop Winblows machine. It is located
on the bottom tier because that's where it fucking belongs.
On the extreme left and out of focus is my new Xeon machine, still
unfinished.

Here is my DIY microphone and power supply. The depth of field is
rather poor but the mic is the metal can at the right end of the
breadboard.
This DIY mic beats the fuck out of any commercial equivalent but,
unfortunately, the room acoustics are somewhat poor.
What you have witnessed if essentially a GNU/Linux workstation
powerhouse, running Gentoo, that can whip the ass of any other
distro.

a time at the same SuperMax. In fact, his cell, or cage actually,
was just down the hall.

They kept moving me around the federal system because I always managed
to start things on fire and do a lot of other damage.

I could not relate to Ted much, though. Even though we are both
mathematicians he was a specialist in combinatorics and I was a
topologist. We had nothing to discuss.

I was eventually released because my team of lawyers managed to
convince the judge that the search warrant was bogus. One day,
they just opened the doors and let me walk out free. They are
dumb bastards all.

Two times here. First one was just a jail sentence of 6 days (hadn't
paid the quadrupled amount of fine for not having repaired my turn
signal light). The other time it was more serious. I was in county jail
this time, and I didn't know how long they were going to keep me there.
After asking others I found out some of them were there for 6 months,
waiting!

In both cases, suddenly the door opened and I was told to get out. First
one, after 2 days, the second after 3 days.

I saw and talked to very interesting guys in there, both times. A few
were highly educated. One I remember was a chemist. He'd made a lab in
his house making narcotics or some other sort of "recreational" chemicals.

And there was this little guy, really a high school age, who were
telling us in detail schemes he had invented to take stuff out of large
stores. Some of it were ingenious. They required a team work. None were
done by himself alone.

There are more. Very interesting people I got to talk to, none of which
I'd have a chance to meet outside jail.

The chemist guy came in after I did and was very worried and looked
devastated. I remember I calmed him down after asking him a few
questions. My main point to him was that things were going to be out of
his control now for a little while, so he should actually relax and
don't give a damn. He understood that and part of his stress
disappeared. Then I told him how to approach what's ahead for him to
help himself. "Divide it into little steps and take the steps one little
bit at a time."

His degree was from Ann Arbor! I got close to begin my physics study in
USA in that University. I was in Dallas only because my language school
was in Dallas and had no intention of actually go to school here. But
the changes in the government in Iran affected my plans, and getting
into UTD seemed a quick easy strategy to fall back on to at least keep
my immigration status. Soon war broke out in Iran (with Iraq) and my
father told me not to go back home. They'd send me straight to the
front. And then the damn war kept on and on and on.

Anyway, early on I had decided to return to Iran and like many friends
continue my studies in there. But the war fucked it up.

My initial plan in USA was to just get a masters degree in Ann Arbor and
then go back home. I had communicated with them starting in Iran, and a
couple of other classmates of mine were already in Ann Arbor. But the
money situation got totally fucked almost as soon as I stepped into this
country. My savings in the bank in Tehran vanished (those thieves took
all the money and ran away to Los Angeles). Then the money I already had
in here got frozen by the government here. So this "Ann Arbor" thing
together with a few other plans never materialized.

hospital facility and providing him with research sources. They _are_
"dumb bastards" though. Just this past weekend they had "ordered"
Italian police to hand over an Iranian who was in the business of
importing electronic stuff from Europe to Iran. They used some form of
sanction bullshit to tell Italians that his exports to Iran could be
used in defense projects too and such projects had killed two Americans
in Jordan!... Talking about using the relation between fart and their
left temple.

Italy first took the first steps to hand him over (they arrested him),
so Iranians immediately used the same technique that is required when
dealing with most ruthless criminals. Hostage! They made sure the
hostage in Iran was Italian and female. Italy's prime minister is female.

Nobody ever announces that he's taken "hostage". Iran used same type of
bullshit to accuse her to be a security threat to Iran.

The prime minister of Italy immediately released the Iranian and sent
him safe and sound to Iran just this past Sunday, and the Italian woman
was released. When the likes of gay Lindsey Graham objected her action,
she showed the middle finger to them!

Nobody in Europe, places his or her life ahead of those of some high
criminals in Washington. Not even their prime ministers. Europe is not
Israel, yet.

In dealing with Justice Department in this country, you're dealing
actually with another type of criminals, because their departments have
long been politicized. If you want justice, you might want to consider
taking someone of theirs hostage! That's how this nation responds. And
they take hostages too. There are still prisoners with not a single
court case made for them, residing in Guantanamo Bay prison, held by the
best and brightest of the U.S. They're hostages of course.

At the root of it, you're dealing with cro-magnons who do not understand
justice to begin with. Sense of justice has developed farther among
Modern Humans. You can see the proof of that by comparing Islam with
Christianity the way it was set by cro-magnons. In Christianity of
theirs, you are free to do any sin you want. Jesus will take care of
you. No such bullshit in Islam. No such bullshit in Modern Humans. No
