'Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem encountered a
hostile, hypocritical CNN host this morning complaining about Elon Musk
and DOGE’s work downsizing and making the federal government more
accountable.
As TGP readers know, President Trump last November announced Elon Musk
and Vivek Ramaswamy (who has since left) would head the Department of
Government Efficiency (DOGE). They would be tasked will rooting out all
fraud within the government and given a greenlight to shutter
ineffective programs.
“This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in
Government waste, which is a lot of people!” Musk said back then.
Indeed it has. DOGE has already identified hundreds of billions in
government waste, fraud, and abuse in under three weeks. Moreover, they
are beginning the process to shutting down corrupt agencies like USAID
which have robbed the taxpayers blind while enriching Deep State
bureaucrats.
During an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Sunday morning, a
hyperventilating Dana Bash constantly whimpered about Musk reportedly
having access to the personal data of Americans, implying without
evidence that he was going to use this information to spy on them
instead rooting out fraud.
“Have you authorized Elon Musk and his team to have access to Americans’
personal data that is housed inside DHS?” Bash asked.
Noem wisely did not fall for Bash’s gotcha question.
“We are working at the president’s direction to find out what we can do
to make our department much more efficient,” Noem replied. “This is
essentially an audit of the federal government which needs to happen.”
One of the things I have been very clear to the appropriators in the
Senate and the House is to give me the authority to reprogram funds,”
she added.
Unwilling to listen to Noem, Bash continued to hyperventilate over Musk
having access to personal data to which Noem said was authorized by
Trump to find waste, fraud, and abuse.
“Elon Musk is part of the administration that is helping us identify
where we can find savings and what we can do, and he has gone through
the processes to make sure that he has the authority president has
appointed him,” Noem explained.
“The work that he is doing by identifying waste, fraud and abuse. This
information that he has is looking at programs, not focusing on personal
data and information, not focusing on it,” she added.
“But he has access to it,” Bash complained.
“We’ll be continuing to talk to him about what all he has access to. But
this audit needs to happen to make sure that we are going through a
process that adds integrity back into these programs.”'
'Noem took to X after the interview to continue to school Bash further
and arguably more effectively than she did on national TV:
“CNN’s Dana Bash pressed me this morning about data privacy and security
leaks,” she wrote. “Let’s set the record straight: My family and I had
our personal information exposed by the Biden administration—a blatant
act of political weaponization.”
“President Trump and I have both been targeted, our private data leaked
while the legacy media looked the other way. The Trump administration
takes these threats seriously, she added. “Biden’s team, meanwhile,
selectively leaked sensitive information for political gain.
“It’s un-American, and I assure you, it won’t happen on my watch.”'
